Through a partnership with Eating Their Words, a unique production company that creates one-of-a-kind cultural experiences by wedding New York’s most innovative chefs with the voices of great American playwrights, Teens for Food Justice will take over the restaurant Toqueville (Zagat-rated 27) for a night that will premiere three short plays specially-written by Douglas Carter Beane (Xanadu, The Little Dog Laughed, The Nance), Liz Flahive (Nurse Jackie, From Up Here), Zakkiyah Alexander (10 Things to Do Before I Die), and a song by Eli Bolin (Sesame Street, FOUND) that will address both humorously and seriously themes TFFJ is tackling, such as food equity and sustainable approaches to urban agriculture in today’s food culture. The plays will be performed by leading actors (cast TBA) at tables set among the diners, giving attendees the sense of voyeuristically overhearing a conversation (the short play) taking place over a meal. In between performances, the diners enjoy the sumptuous course inspired by the play they just watched, specially created for the evening by executive chef Marco Moreira. This will be a very intimate evening for approximately 50 attendees and a special opportunity to introduce new friends to the work of our organization and build donor support.
